Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp users can hide their location when making phone calls with the platform. You do this by using the newest feature called Protect IP Address in Calls.
This feature will hide the user’s IP address when using WhatsApp. The call will be forwarded via WhatsApp’s server.
“In October 2023, WhatsApp will start launching Protect IP Addess in Calls, which will hide your IP from other parties by forwarding calls via the WhatsApp Server,” said the platform, quoted from the Engineering FB page, Friday (10/11/2023).
On the official WhatsApp page, the platform explains that user calls will not be connected directly. This method will avoid revealing the IP address to the person you are talking to on the cellphone.
There will be changes once the feature is activated. WhatsApp explains that call quality may decrease.
WhatsApp also ensures that calls on the platform will be protected with end-to-end encryption technology. This means that no one outside those who are connected will be able to hear it.

Silence Unknown Callers
WhatsApp also released another new security feature last June. Named Silence Unknown Callers, this feature will silence unknown calls.
In this feature, WhatsApp provides a new technology called privacy tokens. With this, users will choose which contacts can be trusted or not.
The server will validate the token using a number of factors. Later, when a telephone call is received, it will be determined whether to allow the contact to contact the user or not.
“For the privacy of our users, the server does not learn anything about the relationship between the caller and the token recipient,” WhatsApp said.
WhatsApp revealed the feature will be combined with other protections from the platform. This will keep users safe in the instant messaging service.
“Security features will be combined with other protections to keep people safe on WhatsApp,” the company said.
