Google Pours IDR 31.8T to Startup That Says AI Kills Tech Humans – 16 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Google Alphabet (GOOGL.O) will disburse investment funds of US$ 2 billion or Rp. 31.8 trillion in an artificial intelligence company called Anthropic.

Quote ReutersSunday (29/10/2023), Google has invested US$ 500 million up front in Anthropic and agreed to add another US$ 1.5 billion over time.

Google itself is already an investor in Anthropic and the new deal would underscore the company’s increasing efforts to better compete with Microsoft (MSFT), a key backer of ChatGPT maker Open AI.

Apart from Google, Amazon.com (AMZN.O) management also said it would invest up to US$4 billion in Anthropic to compete with cloud competitors growing in the field of AI.

Meanwhile, Google refused to comment on information circulating in the public and Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported the news of Google’s latest agreement with Anthropic.

The increasing number of investments shows the continued maneuvering by cloud companies to secure relationships with AI startups that are reshaping their industries.

Anthropic, co-founded by former OpenAI executives and siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei has demonstrated an effort to secure the resources, as well as deep-pocketed backers needed to compete with OpenAI and become a leader in the tech sector.
