Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court satirizes dynastic politics in front of Prabowo News – 10 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Jimly Asshiddiqie talks about dynastic politics ahead of the 2024 General Election. The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the 2003-2008 period said that Indonesia is a republican country. However, in political practice it is like using a feudal system.

Interestingly, Jimly conveyed this in front of participants in the ICMI National Work Gathering (Silatnas) and Prabowo Subianto, presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

As is known, Prabowo will be side by side with Gibran Rakabuming Raka in next year’s political contest. Gibran, President Jokowi’s eldest son, 36 years old, is running for vice presidential candidate after the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the minimum age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Previously, Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections stated that the minimum age for presidential and vice presidential candidates was 40 years. However, the Constitutional Court then allowed presidential and vice-presidential candidates to be under 40 years old, as long as they had previously been or were currently state officials.

Jimly said that England was a country in the form of a kingdom but implemented politics like a republic. “Well, I said that you are part of a kingdom but your behavior is a republic so it’s easy for you to change into a republic. That’s not what I said, Indonesia is a republic but its behavior is a kingdom,” said Jimly, quoting CNN Indonesia.

As an intellectual person, Jimly said he should see it objectively as a phenomenon.

“That explains that all parties are experiencing blood turning blue, not just one of them. So we don’t blame party a or party b, we can’t. But we have to see it as a phenomenon for which a long-term solution must be found. Not just blaming,” he said.

Jimly said that feudalism then led to dynastic politics. “I don’t need to mention the party, you already understand,” he continued.

Previously, Prabowo said that dynastic politics was a normal thing and happened in a number of political parties, including PDIP. Prabowo made this statement after attending the declaration of the direction of the PSI presidential election coalition at the Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (24/10).
