Football Writers Wanted (Volunteer Role)

Location: Remote / Berkshire

Commitment: Flexible and voluntary role

About Football in Berkshire

Football in the Berkshires is a dedicated website covering grassroots, non-league and local football across the Berkshires. We aim to provide a platform to clubs, players and supporters by providing accurate, engaging and passionate local match coverage.

Football in the Berkshires is a volunteer-led grassroots football platform, created and run by volunteers. Revenue generated from our content is used to host our end-of-season awards night at the Double-Barrelled Brewery in the center of Reading, platform fees and, occasionally, sponsor a player or two.

The opportunity here is to be part of a platform that, for 10 years, has been championing the grassroots game in the region. We’ve covered matches from local fixtures to Wembley Stadium, and everything in between.

Role

The main thing here is that we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our group of knowledgeable volunteers.

We want writers, both established and budding, to contribute match reports, previews, summaries and features covering football in the Berkshires. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to build writing experience, get information or stay closely connected to the local football scene. Maybe you just enjoy writing and want to get involved.

Whether you’re interested in focusing on one particular club, a particular competition or making the County region your own, from West Berkshire to Bracknell Forest, Reading, Windsor and Maidenhead.

What can you write

  • Write match reports and summaries, previews and articles for publication on the Football in Berkshire website
  • Attend local matches if possible (or report remotely if necessary)

  • Meet agreed deadlines and maintain accuracy in reporting
  • Communicate with editors regarding assignments and ideas

What we are looking for

  • A strong interest in football, especially grassroots or non-league football
  • Good written English and attention to detail
  • Reliability and ability to work to deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback
  • Previous writing experience is helpful, but not essential; passion for grassroots football is

What will you gain

  • Published bylines and portfolio-ready work on award-winning brands
  • Experience in sports journalism and online publishing
  • Audience
  • Access to local clubs and matches
  • Editorial mentoring and support – we have relationships with larger sports media organisations
