Facebook and Instagram Prepare Ban for Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates Tech – 5 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The company that owns Facebook, Meta, prohibits political advertising using generative artificial intelligence (AI) products. The aim is to prevent the circulation of misleading content during the election period.

Apart from Facebook, Meta is the parent company of WhatsApp and Instagram. The previous meta did not have specific restrictions regarding AI. However, the use of AI-engineered content must comply with Meta’s rules regarding the prohibition of advertising content that has been declared to be false content.

Meta in recent weeks began providing access to its proprietary AI technology to digital advertisers. This technology, among other things, can automatically create backgrounds for advertisements. Advertisers can also modify images and create many variations of an ad just by typing text commands.

The plan is for the AI tool for Meta advertising to launch for users worldwide in 2024.

According to Reuters, Meta’s strict rules are the most significant policy since the emergence of ChatGPT, making global technology companies compete to develop their respective AI technologies.

Unlike Meta, Google has not set a ban on the use of AI for political advertising. The world’s largest digital advertising company chose to use a system to block the use of “political keywords” in AI commands.

Google also plans to publish a policy requiring political ads to disclose the use of “synthetic content that is not authentic but depicts events or people in a realistic light.”

Two other global technology companies, Snap and TikTok, have completely banned political advertising on their platforms. Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s Twitter X does not yet offer AI tools for users.

One of Meta’s top officials, Nick Clegg, warned about the dangers of AI in the election season. He asked technology companies and governments to prepare for the use of AI to disrupt elections, especially in the form of content shared from one social media to another.

Clegg also previously stated to Reuters that Meta will block the use of Meta AI to create realistic images resembling photos depicting public figures.
