Everyone Has to Pay to Tweet, That’s the Price Tech – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In the future, all X (formerly Twitter) users will have to pay a subscription to write and post tweets. Currently, the social media service is testing a subscription model called ‘Not A Bot’ or “not a bot”.

The subscription is priced at US$ 1 or around Rp. 15 thousand per year, quoted from Reuters, Wednesday (18/10/2023).

This subscription allows users to react to a post, namely by giving a like, repost or quote to someone else’s upload. Users can also bookmark certain uploads in the web version.

Previously, these features could be enjoyed for free. However, in the future free accounts that don’t want to pay a subscription will have limited space in X.

Free users can only see and read uploads, watch videos, and follow accounts on X. Free users can no longer participate actively, including tweeting something.

During the trial process, this provision does not apply to existing users. Only new users will experience it. X argued that this subscription feature was created to combat bots.

For the initial stage, testing will impact X users in New Zealand and the Philippines. It is not yet clear when the trial will be expanded to other countries, including Indonesia.

Previously, at the beginning of this month, X CEO Linda Yaccarino said that he would arrange 3 subscription packages. Each will determine how many ads are shown to users.
