CNBC Insight There Are Kilos of Gold Treasures in Jakarta, Their Location is Mysterious Entrepreneur – 1 day ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Stories of treasure in Indonesia always attract attention. One of them is about Nakamura’s treasure whose traces are mysterious. It is said that this treasure is in the form of cash and gold bars with fantastic value. Unfortunately, its exact location is not known and it is still a mystery.

The story about Nakamura’s treasure makes us have to go back to 1946 or the era of President Soekarno. This story was first obtained from Carla Wolff. Wolff was a member of the Dutch Indies Guerilla Organization (NIGO) and the mistress of a Japanese soldier named Captain Hiroshi Nakamura.

As Ben Anderson wrote in Youth Revolution (1988), Captain Nakamura was a Japanese soldier who served in Jakarta during the Dai Nippon occupation. After he was off duty, he carried out a robbery against a state-owned company in 1946. At that time his action went unnoticed because Indonesians were engrossed in the frenzy of the proclamation.

According to records De Locomotive (1/8/1948), Nakamura robbed 960 kg of gold worth 10 to 80 million guilders. All the gold was transported by truck and taken to Nakamura’s official residence.

When the gold was in his house, Wolff, who was his mistress, was very happy. He wanted to squander the gold.

“I am richer than the Queen of the Netherlands. I will sleep on a golden bed and the guests will eat from golden plates,” said Wolff, quoted from Robber (2012)

Unfortunately, pleasure is ephemeral. Not long after, the robbery case was investigated by the Dutch government who occupied Jakarta. The results of the investigation stated that Captain Nakamura and Carla Wolff were officially declared guilty.

However, slowly this case also dragged in Colonel Nomura, who was Nakamura’s superior, and a British soldier named Captain Morton.

According to the newspaper Hit dagblad (24/6/1946) Nomura was declared involved because he admitted to enjoying the proceeds of the robbery because he was Nakamura’s superior. Nomura also admitted to having opened 9 suitcases of gold and the first for a day at a house. Then, the suitcases were taken to the Japanese military office in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Morton’s involvement was because he had bought 20 kg of gold from Nakamura’s robbery. As a result of being proven involved in the robbery, the four suspects were officially detained. Nakamura received the most severe punishment. Meanwhile, Worlff was sentenced to 8 months in prison.

So, where are the kilos of gold?

Unfortunately, there is no clarity on this matter. When investigating the case, the authorities said they only received gold equivalent to 1 million guilders. Meanwhile, it is not clear where the rest are.

Some say Nakamura kept the remaining gold in a secret place when he was caught by the police. There are also those who say the gold is stored in the Menteng area, Jakarta. However, one thing is certain, the whereabouts of the gold is currently unknown.
