Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It was feared that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology would replace humans in jobs that rely on automation. However, it turns out that the bad impact of AI is not the only one.

There are a multitude of negative impacts of AI if its application is not regulated or the risks are not mitigated. Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Mira Tayyiba, revealed that AI-related incidents continue to increase. Based on data from Stanford University, in the 2012-2022 period there was an increase of 26 times.

“The increasing spread of disinformation generated by AI also needs to be a major concern for all parties because it can be misused to manipulate public opinion and incite disputes, which can then cause disruption or chaos in public services, social order and economic stability,” explained Mira Economic Forum. I Nyoman Adhiarna, Secretary General of Information Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information, touched on the issue of disinformation that can be used with AI technology. Even false information is difficult to distinguish from actual reality.

One example is the distribution of a video of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) giving a speech in Chinese. According to Kominfo’s explanation, the video came from The US – Indonesia Society (USINDO) channel on November 13 2015.

The video was then edited using technology deepfakes. Even though Jokowi did not use Mandarin during the speech.

“Creating a digital space that is not clean and healthy. Disinformation creates disruption in society, so the information circulating is difficult to distinguish between hoaxes and not,” said Adhiarna

“Example of the president giving a speech in Chinese. Now this is an example of using AI for disinformation, so that people can be influenced,” he added.

Adhiarna reminded us to be able to maintain digital space safely. Especially considering that Indonesia will face the upcoming election in 2024.

“And we are facing a political event, so we must be able to maintain it so that our digital space is safe and clean,” he explained.
