Ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 matches, we hear from the managers of Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
We’ll round up the key injury updates below.
LIVERPOOL
One important player absent from the 21-man squad that traveled to Istanbul to face Galatasaray was the goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian trained on Monday, before the flight, but felt discomfort towards the end of the session.
“Ali, of course, was in the session – as many people could see – but unfortunately, he felt something towards the end of the session.
“And that, how do you say this… people saw it and we decided and he decided together that it wasn’t good enough to play tomorrow. And then there was no point in traveling.
“There’s definitely a chance [he’ll be back on Sunday]yeah, because we didn’t expect it to be a big thing, but it was too much [for him] available for tomorrow.” – Arne slots on Alisson
Federico Chiesa (sick) also stay at home.
“Federico was also absent from this session. He wasn’t feeling well last night, so that’s why he didn’t train with us today and didn’t travel with us.” – Arne slots on Federico Chiesa
Alexander Isaac (ankle), Stefan Bajcetic (paralyze), Wataru Endo (foot), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knees) stay out.
NEWCASTLE UNITED
After a little worry is over Anthony Gordon (ankle), Joelinton (load management) and Jacob Murphy (neck) in the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Manchester City, the trio took part in training on Monday.
Small disease outbreaks also don’t cause much concern.
“I don’t think there are any new injuries. We had a bit of an illness again in camp. This has been happening in the last few days. We were going to lose a player, but they recovered quite quickly. So, I anticipate, fingers crossed, we won’t lose anyone.” – Eddie Howe
The Barcelona match came too quickly Lewis Miley (thigh), temporary Fabian Schar (ankle), Bruno Guimaraes (hamstring) and Emil Krafth (knee) long-term absence.
Tino Livramento returned from a hamstring injury as a substitute on Saturday, but it may still be too early for the full-back to make a debut.
“He probably hasn’t done enough training for me to feel 100% confident that he’s in his best physical moment, especially for a game of that magnitude, to start.
“But he’s in our squad, and whoever is in that position will obviously be competing for games. It’s a tricky balance with Tino at the moment.
“He trained again this morning and he trained again on Friday and is in good spirits. He’s in good shape. He’s a very important player for us; it’s great to have him back. Of course, I have to try and get the team selection right.” – Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Also not Djed Spence (calf) too Radu Dragusin (minor injury) were involved in Gameweek 29 but the Spurs defensive duo returned to training ahead of the trip to Atletico Madrid.

Yves Bissouma And Souza also ineligible for the Champions League.
“We’re happy that Romero is back, Djed is back, Bissouma is not, and Souza is because of Champions League regulations. So, the players are back, that’s important. [because] it’s my first time here and we will have, let’s say, players who are ready to play in defense, players who usually play.” –Igor Tudor
