The Hollyoaks scene featuring Kieron Richardson soap legend has been found to have violated two ofcom rules.
Broadcasting regulators enter to investigate channel 4 series after product placement is used during the episode in February.
Direct Reference to Clearscore Credit Giro Company – which was previously a sponsor of the event – made by the character of Kieron Ste Hay.
In a conversation with his son Lucas (Oscar Curtis), he took out his phone and opened the application, exclaimed: ‘Look at this? They have shown me several options based on my financial situation, and it seems I can get you a laptop for your study! ‘
He was then seen tracing the various features offered by the company, before adding: ‘I really want you to try this, Lucas. These people will help me make it happen. ‘
Product placement is permitted, although the guidelines in Regulation 9.10 state that it should not be ‘too prominent’.
Ofcom also quoted Rules 9.9, which states that ‘references to products, services, and marked trade signs should not be promoted.’
Fans quickly take references, with one article on X: ‘Clearscore product placement in Hollyoaks is crazy. Ste did his best this week. ‘
Others added: ‘Not other Clearscore ads.’
According to the report, Channel 4 has confirmed that references are made in connection with an agreement with the company, which is separated from their overall sponsors.
The broadcaster also stated that the ‘editorial’ reference was justified ‘in the program, and that’ part of the sponsor and product placement agreement, the potential integration into the existing storyline was proposed to clean up by the Program Editorial Team, in consulting with the Program Compliance Team. ‘
They added: ‘Clearscore does not have editorial input into the program flow.’
Their response continued by claiming that when Ste tried to rebuild her life after her husband’s death James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) and more than a year was spent in a coma, she looked for ways to support her family.

Ofcom concluded their report by saying that the scene was a clear ‘demonstration’ about how to use an application, not a cuff reference.
Responding to the results, channel 4 spokesman said: ‘We recognize ofcom’s decision and will review his findings carefully.
“Our compliance responsibilities are very important for us and we will continue to be involved with our partners and partners to ensure our content remains appropriate.”
Hollyoaks continued tonight at 7 pm at E4.
