Two women have died in wild swimming places that are popular in Wales’s largest national park.

The couple was found dead after going to swim at night in the pool of a waterfall in Mount Snowdonia, which is popular among explorers.

Emergency services were called to the swimming pool on the Watkin route, which led to the summit of Mount Snowdon, which is now known as YR Wyddfa on Wednesday night.

When they arrive, a woman has been pulled from water. Others were found from the swimming pool a few moments later.

North Wales police said the investigation was being carried out to determine how the women died, and the coronary had been notified.

Snowdon attracts more than 600,000 pedestrians, climbers, and tourists every year with a series of footpaths and railroad tracks that lead to the peak of 3,560 feet.

The eight -mile watkin path is described as ‘one of the most steep and more challenging routes in Snowdon’.

It takes about four to seven hours to be completed-with a decrease in water which is described as what must be done for many pedestrians.

The ponds have been described as ‘very likely to swim the most beautiful wild in all national parks’.

Head of Detective Inspector Andy Gibson, from the North Wales police, said: ‘our thoughts and sympathy remain with family and friends of the two women.

‘Investigation to determine what is happening now is ongoing.

“We begged anyone who might have been walking in or around the Watkin Path area between 6 pm and 21:00 last night, they were urged to contact us.”
