Founded by Caramia Sitompul, he wanted to prove that local products heritage can also be loved by the world.
Tioria’s famous product is the scarf with various images and patterns that emphasize originality or authentic Indonesian motifs. The scarf products produced are given unique names such as Borobudur, Bajaj Jakarta, Becak, Ondel-ondel, etc.
Apart from that, Tioria also produces other accessory products such as hats, pouches and masks. There are also kabaya and outer with a choice of motifs colourful and takes unique themes from various stories from regions in Indonesia.
His love of art and fashion making Caramia Sitompul have a brilliant portfolio which is the main capital in pursuing this business passion which are owned. He received education in the field art and design at the University of Michigan (UM), United States. After that, he also continued his education in the field fashion designer in New York, USA.
It is not only his educational background that is impressive. He has also collaborated with a number of well-known global fashion brands such as Calvin Klein (Collection, Platinum, and Jeans), Donna Karan, DKNY, Kate Spade, Macy’s, Ralph Lauren, and others.
Caramia has a great love for Indonesian art and culture. This is also what made him return to Indonesia and start pioneering Tioria, as told by his mother, Joyce Sitompul. The mother is also the one who is now her son’s partner in running Tioria.
Tioria’s business is growing and now has 200 types of products, both fashion and accessories, with Indonesian cultural themes. Through this unique product, Tioria was then able to take part in the BRI UMKM EXPO(RT) BRILIANPRENEUR program.
“At first we made it summer shirts Last year, one of the design themes was street vendors. BRI saw it and immediately invited them to take part in the Bazaar Road to UMKM EXPO(RT) BRILIANPRENEUR 2023 to enliven the Kick Off of BRI’s 128th Anniversary. “Having gone through the curation process, this is our greatest opportunity to jump into a wider market,” said Joyce.
According to Joyce, BRILLIANTPRENEUR can be a bridge for MSME players who have a dream to go global. This is also why Tioria has made various thorough preparations to welcome BRILianpreneur 2023 which is planned to be held 7-10 December 2023. Some of the concepts that have been prepared include designs inspired by new bugs, traditional pickled food, Indonesian farmers and the Rawa Belong flower market.
“It’s made unique. So it looks trivial but it’s good. That’s why my child loves Indonesian art and culture,” he said.
Tioria’s originality is the main reason this local brand can participate in BRILLIANTPRENEUR. During the process of turning his art into fashion products and accessories, Caramia always carries out in-depth research to get closer to the culture that will be the source of his inspiration. Without hesitation, he will go directly to the area.
So far there have been 5 (five) regions whose culture has been incorporated into Tioria products. Joyce revealed that the five regions include DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java and North Sumatra.
He also revealed that Caramia still has aspirations to visit many other regions in order to create authentic products. Joyce is also optimistic that BRILLIANTPRENEUR will be able to support Tioria’s aspirations.
For your information, BRI UMKM EXPO(RT) BRILIANPRENEUR is a BRI program that seeks to bring Indonesian MSME products to the world. Through this program, MSME actors are met with candidates buyers from the global market. This program itself focuses on distinctive and creative industrial exhibitions by displaying the best MSME products through various interesting and charming art installations.
BRI’s Director of Small and Medium Business, Amam Sukriyanto, revealed that the MSME EXPO(RT) BRILIANPRENEUR is BRI’s initiative to introduce the uniqueness of MSMEs and their customer products which have high competitiveness at the global level. This program is one of BRI’s concrete steps.
“MSMEs must get lots of opportunities to be able to export and enter international markets because MSMEs are currently the backbone of the Indonesian economy. We hope that the story of Tioria by Caramia and other MSMEs will be successful go global “It can be an inspiring story and be followed by other MSME players in Indonesia,” said Amam.
