This is the List of Revisions to the ITE Law, the Government’s Proposed Version Tech – 6 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government and DPR are close to passing changes to the Information and Electronic Transactions Law, including several articles on criminal acts, recognition of electronic contracts, and the issue of protecting children in the digital world.

The Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, explained that the Panja Meeting as well as the Drafting Team (Timus) and Synchronization Team (Timsin) meetings had completed discussions and agreed on changes to 14 existing articles and the addition of 5 articles to the Second Amendment Bill to the ITE Law.

Some of the main points produced include changes to norms covering electronic evidence, electronic certification and electronic transactions.

“Electronic seals and website authentication and digital identity. Indonesia needs a more comprehensive legal basis,” he said.

Another change concerns the authority of civil servant investigators in the case of investigating cyber crimes to order digital platforms and applications to temporarily cut off access to bank accounts, electronic money and digital assets.

“Criminal perpetrators use bank accounts to store the proceeds of their crimes. Criminals also buy or trade digital assets in their criminal schemes,” explained the Minister of Communication and Information.

The government is also trying to fix the problems that make the ITE Law subject to multiple interpretations.

“Many parties consider the norms of the ITE Law to have multiple interpretations, are rubbery, suppress press freedom, and threaten freedom of opinion,” he said.

For this reason, the government is proposing changes to the list of prohibited acts in the ITE Law and its criminal provisions.
