The Latest HP King in RI, Infinix Sells Well, Wants to Overtake Samsung Tech – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian cellphone market has finally recovered after struggling for the last eight quarters. The IDC report shows positive growth of 8.8% in Q3 2023 on a year-on-year (YoY) basis.

Oppo occupies first position as the king of HP in Indonesia with a market share of 20.1%. The Chinese manufacturer shipped 1.8 million smartphone units in the three month period ending in October 2023.

Followed by Samsung in second place with a market share of 16.3%. Next there is a brand from China, Transsion, which occupies third place with a market share of 15.6%.

The brand that houses Infinix, Tecno and iTel managed to beat other big brands such as Xiaomi and Vivo which are now in fourth and fifth positions.

Transsion rose to third place because it dominates the HP segment in the price range of less than IDR 3 million through its sub-brands, Infinix and iTel.

Transsion recorded the most significant growth of 79.7% YoY. Apart from that, Xiaomi also grew positively by 17.9% YoY.

Oppo, Samsung, Vivo, each still shows a decline in cellphone shipment numbers compared to last year in the same period.

In the IDC report, growth was seen in all price segments, especially led by smartphones with prices above IDR 9 million. This segment has doubled compared to last year.

This was driven by the launch of a new foldable cellphone from Samsung and the delivery of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 from Apple.

The middle class (mid-range) segment with a price range of IDR 3-9 million also grew by 16.8% YoY, driven by Samsung, Apple and Oppo. Vendors are strengthening their portfolios in this segment.

Meanwhile, the lower class segment with prices of less than IDR 3 million grew 2.7% YoY after experiencing a decline for several quarters, with tight competition between Transsion, Vivo, Xiaomi and Realme.
