Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Indosat Tbk. exploring collaboration with OneWeb, a satellite internet provider rivaling Elon Musk’s Starlink.
Like Starlink, OneWeb is an internet provider company that operates satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The owners of this company, among others, are the British and French governments.
In Indonesia, OneWeb collaborates with PT Dwi Tunggal Putra. Some time ago, Indosat CEO Vikram Sinha exhibited a photo at OneWeb headquarters. On the other hand, Starlink is known to have collaborated with Telkomsat, a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Persero).
“We will work together with a bigger goal, namely providing connections for every Indonesian citizen, especially those on the outer islands,” said Vikram in a post on LinkedIn.
Vikram stated that Indosat was open to collaborating with all satellite companies to provide internet access to all corners of Indonesia.
“For this satellite, Indosat is opening its arms, of course it wants various partners, both in Indonesia and globally, with the main focus of empowering the Indonesian people to provide the best experience,” he said.
In collaborating with satellite companies, Indosat has several focuses. The first focus is to provide the best data service for remote areas.
The second focus is to help industries located in remote areas that require internet connections, such as the fisheries and plantation sectors.
“This satellite imaging can help with the services provided by the satellite provider, for exploration,” said Vikram.
