Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi reminded the importance of using satellites for Indonesia’s connectivity. This was said after the Satria-1 satellite entered orbit on Monday (30/10/2023).
“We are a country where the use of satellite technology is more important for us,” said Budi, at the Ministry of Communication and Information office, Thursday (2/11/2023).
After arriving in orbit, a series of preparations will be carried out. Including preparing stations on Earth to receive signals from satellites.
“The ground segment is being worked on and we hope that early next year it will serve the community,” he said.
There are 11 Earth stations prepared. All of them are spread throughout Indonesia, one of which is in Cikarang, West Java, which is the main satellite control station and network operations center (Network Operation Center).
Meanwhile, the station in Banjarmasin serves as a backup satellite control station. The remaining Earth stations are in Batam, Pontianak, Tarakan, Manado, Kupang, Ambon, Manokwari, Timika and Jayapura.
The Satria-1 satellite is placed in an orbit of 146 degrees East Longitude. To reach its orbital slot, the satellite took four months after being launched on June 18 2023 in the United States (US).
Currently a communication trial is being carried out and it is targeted to be completed by the end of November. Next, a complete test is carried out so that it can be fully operational immediately.
Satria-1 uses Very High-throughput Satellite (VHTS) technology. The satellite has a capacity of up to 150 Gbps and will serve 3T areas throughout Indonesia.
