Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, revealed that The Geong glass bridge in the Limpakuwus Pine Forest area in Banyumas Regency, Central Java does not have a business permit, Monday (30/10/2023).

Apart from The Geong Glass Bridge, Sandi also said that the Limpakuwus Pine Forest had not yet undergone CHSE recertification issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

“In 2021, the natural tourist attraction of the Limpakuwus Pine Forest has been certified by CHSE 2021 in the tourist attraction category. However, it is very unfortunate that currently the natural tourist attraction of the Limpakuwus Pine Forest has not carried out recertification,” said Sandi at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Monday (30/10/2023) .

“So it turns out that The Geong glass bridge ride also doesn’t have a business permit,” continued Sandi.

Responding to this, the Head of the Banyumas Regency Disporabudpar, Setia Rahendra, said that the Banyumas Regency Regional Government (Pemda) had issued a circular to tourist attraction owners regarding safety standards.

“The Acting Regent of Banyumas immediately took steps. First, he issued a circular addressed to tourism business actors so that they meet the suitability standards for tourist attractions in Banyumas Regency,” said Setia on the same occasion.

“Secondly, simultaneously stop all tourist objects that have the potential to cause accidents until there is an evaluation or feasibility of functioning of the tourist objects,” he continued.

For information, CHSE or Cleanliness (cleanliness), Health (health), Safety (security), and Environment Sustainability (environmental sustainability) are certificates given to tourism businesses, other tourism-related businesses/facilities, as well as tourism destinations that meet SNI 9042 standards :2021 which has been determined in the SNI CHSE Certification assessment.

Previously, a tourist fell to his death due to a broken glass bridge while visiting The Geong glass bridge in the Limpakuwus Pine Forest, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, last Wednesday (25/10/2023).

Chronology of The Geong Broken Glass Bridge

Setia said the accident occurred on Wednesday (25/10/2023) at 10.00 WIB. At that time, there were 15 tourists visiting The Geong Limpakuwus Pine Forest with four of them on the glass bridge to take photos.

However, the bridge he was standing on while taking the photo suddenly broke, resulting in one victim being injured and one death.

“Four of them were taking selfies on the glass bridge. When they were in the middle, it turned out that the glass bridge broke, resulting in an accident,” said Setia.

“Two [wisatawan] didn’t fall because he was holding on to the bridge, hanging on. However, two more people fell and one of them died. The other one suffered injuries,” he added.

According to Setia, the results of investigations by the Banyumas Police and Central Java Regional Police showed that the glass thickness of The Geong bridge was only 1.2 cm and that it had infrastructure that was far from safety standards.

“It was found that the thickness of the glass was quite thin, only 1.2 cm. Including aspects of the infrastructure and so on, it was still far from the appropriateness standards to be safe,” explained Setia.

Currently, the police have named the owner of The Geong glass bridge, Edi Suseno (63) as a suspect in this unfortunate incident.

Launching from detikjateng, Banyumas Police Chief, Commissioner Edy Suranta Sitepu, said that The Geong glass bridge was the result of his own design without the help of a team of experts. Apart from that, the glass bridge vehicle has not yet had a feasibility test.

“There is no standard operational procedure (SOP). Apart from that, there are no safety studies when it is operational or feasibility standards,” said Edy, Monday (30/10/2023).

As a result of this, Edi was charged under Articles 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence causing loss of life with the threat of a sentence of five years in prison.
