Ministry of Health Reveals the Cause of Increased Monkey Pox Cases Lifestyle – 5 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Health revealed the cause of the spike in cases of monkey pox or monkeypox in Indonesia on Monday (23/10/2023).


According to official information received by CNBC Indonesia, the results of the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s investigation show that six out of a total of seven patients with monkeypox cases in Indonesia are people living with HIV (PLHIV) and have a bisexual orientation.

Apart from that, the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, revealed that one of the factors causing monkey pox in patients is risky sexual behavior.

In this regard, the Head of the Communications and Public Services Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi asked the Indonesian people not to have risky sex and immediately visit a health facility (faskes) if symptoms are found.

“Don’t engage in risky sexual behavior. If you have to, use protection and don’t change partners,” advised Dr. Nadia to CNBC Indonesia, quoted Monday (23/10/2023).

“If there are symptoms of smallpox lesions, immediately go to the health facility and get an examination,” he concluded.

Based on daily data as of Sunday (22/10/2023), the Indonesian Ministry of Health recorded an increase in confirmed cases of monkey pox in Indonesia, namely seven cases since it was first reported on October 13 2023 or 8 cases since it was first confirmed in August 2022.

“Based on the results of laboratory examinations, up to now we have had 7 confirmed cases of Monkeypox in Indonesia this year. All confirmed cases were found in the DKI Jakarta area,” said Dr. Maxi, quoted from the official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Monday (23/10/2023).

According to Dr. Maxi, all cases of monkey pox were found in DKI Jakarta. In detail, one case came from Jatinegara, East Jakarta; one case in Mampang, South Jakarta; one case in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta; two cases in Setiabudi, South Jakarta; one case in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta; and one case in Kembangan, West Jakarta.

The same data shows that all confirmed Monkeypox patients are men of reproductive age. Around 71 percent of confirmed patients are men aged 25-29 years and another 29 percent are men aged 30-39 years.

“Regarding his condition, everything is good and stable. We are monitoring it closely and continuously. Currently we are also monitoring parties who have close contact with the patient,” explained Dr. Maxi.
