Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Israeli military attacked the Maghazi Refugee Camp in Gaza, Saturday (4/11/2023). The attack killed at least 38 people, mostly women and children.
Reuters quoted the Palestinian news agency, Sunday (5/11/2023), this attack occurred when there were many calls for a ceasefire from Arab countries, which were rejected by the United States and Israel.
Increasing the death toll in Gaza, pro-Palestinian demonstrators staged protests around the world calling for the war to end immediately, yesterday.
WAFA reported that the Maghazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip was hit by an Israeli bomb on Saturday night.
Although Reuters could not independently verify WAFA’s report. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
However, it was explained that they were targeting Hamas, not civilians.
A spokesman for the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza, Ashraf al Qidra, said a large number of people were killed in the attack, without specifying the exact number and that many people were seriously injured.
Gaza Health officials said that more than 9,488 Palestinians were killed in the war that started last October 7. At that time, Hamas fighters launched a surprise attack on Southern Israel, killing 1,400 people and taking more than 240 hostages.
The foreign ministers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Amman yesterday and encouraged the US to persuade Israel to immediately agree to a ceasefire.
“This war will only cause more suffering for Palestinians, for Israel, and it will push us all back into the abyss of hatred and dehumanization,” Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman said at a press conference, quoted by Reuters, Sunday (5/11/ 2023).
“So it needs to stop,” he added.
However, the idea of a ceasefire was rejected by the US, saying it would only benefit Hamas.
Washington proposed a pause in fighting to allow humanitarian aid in, and residents to leave the Gaza Strip.
Apart from that, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also rejected the proposal since he met with Blinken last Friday in Turkey, Tel Aviv.
