Microsoft Suddenly Bans ChatGPT, What’s Up? Tech – 16 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft is one of the early investors in OpenAI, a startup that developed the popular AI-based chatbot service, ChatGPT.

Strangely, Microsoft actually banned its employees from using ChatGPT. On its internal website, the technology giant argued that the ban on the use of chatbots was due to security concerns.

“Due to security and data issues, a number of AI tools are not available for employee use,” said Microsoft, quoted from CNBC InternationalFriday (10/11/2023).

The company also touched on its investment in OpenAI, including the security protection that ChatGPT provides. However, according to Microsoft, the website used by ChatGPT is provided by a third party service.

“While it’s true that Microsoft is investing in OpenAI and ChatGPT has built-in protections to prevent unsafe use, the website is a third-party service,” the company explained.

“This means you have to be careful when using it because of security risks. This also includes other external AI services such as Midjourney or Replika,” Microsoft added.

Now, access to ChatGPT has been restored based on reports CNBC International. Initially, ChatGPT and Canva were banned, but finally chatbot access returned to normal after the article was published.

Based on Microsoft’s statement, the blocking occurred by accident. At that time, the company was testing a large language modeling (LLM) system which was being tested on all employees.

“We restored service [ChatGPT] immediately after identifying the error. “As said previously, we encourage employees and customers to use services like Bing Chat Enterprise and ChatGPT Enterprises that come with a high level of privacy and security protection,” Microsoft said.
