Legitimate! Giant South Sumatra 8 PLTU Finally Operates News – 1 hour ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) revealed that the Sumsel-8 Mine Mouth Steam Power Plant (PLTU) (2×660 MW) had reached the status Commercial Operation Date (COD) aka operating commercially. The COD date is set to be effective from 7 October 2023 by PLN.

President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Arsal Ismail expressed his hope that the Sumsel-8 Mine Mouth PLTU or known as Tanjung Lalang PLTU can bring benefits to national energy security and community welfare.

“We hope that the Tanjung Lalang PLTU can help PLN meet electricity needs in the Sumatra region, as well as create a multiplier effect for economic growth so that it can contribute to development,” said Arsal in a written statement, Thursday (2/11/2023).


He explained that the Tanjung Lalang PLTU uses technology supercritical efficient and environmentally friendly. Apart from that, PLTU Tanjung Lalang also applies technology Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) to reduce exhaust emissions.

“This FGD technology can reduce sulfur dioxide from exhaust gas emissions from coal-fired power plants,” said Arsal.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Jisman Hutajulu said that electricity in Sumatra will be more reliable with the PLTU MT Sumsel-8.

“The need for electricity in Sumatra continues to increase. Thus PLTU MT Sumsel-8 has an important role in meeting this increasing need,” said Jisman.

For information, PLTU MT Sumsel-8 is part of the 35,000 MW Power Plant Development Program located in Tanjung Lalang Village, Tanjung Agung District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province.

Also known as PLTU Tanjung Lalang, this plant was built by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP), which is a strategic collaboration between PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and China Huadian Hongkong Company Ltd (CHDHK).

PLTU MT Sumsel-8 supplies electricity to PLN for public purposes in the Sumatran Electricity System and requires up to 5.4 million tons of coal per year. The investment value of the PLTU MT Sumsel-8 project reached US$ 1.68 billion.
