Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia or KCI is opening the option to import 3 train sets. The import option has emerged again because KCI predicts there will be an increase in the number of passengers in the next 1-2 years.
“Hopefully in the process of importing new trains, these 3, will also become a backup later when in 2024-2025 we predict an increase in passenger volume,” said KAI Commuter Vice President Corporate Secretary Anne Purba in a press conference, Monday (6 /11/2023).
However, he was reluctant to reveal the origin of this imported train, including the potential for the traditional country of Indonesia to take the train, namely Japan. What is certain is that it is currently still in the procurement process stage, including the technical specifications.

“This is still in the procurement period, I don’t want to mention the brand, I don’t want to mention the country. When it’s finished, we’ll let you know,” said Anne.
This KRL import will not be ready in the near future. The reason is, it takes time from auction to procurement.
“We have targeted 2024-2025 to be able to operate it. And it’s currently in process, where will the technology come from? Once it’s finished, we’ll announce it, because this is still an auction process,” said Anne.
