Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Jeff Bezos decided to move from Seattle after living in the city for almost 30 years. For the sake of his family, he will return to his parents’ residence in Miami.
Seattle is known as the place where Bezos started Amazon. In 1995, he founded the company in the garage of a rented house in Bellevue.
In a video on his Instagram, he is seen visiting one of Amazon’s early offices. There, he built an ecommerce place to buy books.
In his caption, Bezos explained that Seattle was the place where he had lived the longest. That area will also remain in his heart even though he no longer lives there.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many memories,” Bezos was quoted as saying CNBC InternationalMonday (6/11/2023).
“While this move is exciting, it is an emotional decision for me. Seattle will always be a part of my heart,” he added.
Amazon is also the reason Seattle is growing rapidly. Especially the head office area which is in South Lake Union.
The region is known as a technology hub. Many workers in these fields moved there, but this also resulted in soaring rent prices and many homeless people.
Apart from his family, Bezos will also remain busy even though he will no longer be CEO of Amazon in 2021. He still operates the Earth Fund, Blue Origin, and the Washington Post.
In Miami, he reportedly owns two adjoining properties in Indian Creek Village. The price of the two properties reached US$150 million (Rp. 2.3 trillion).
Bezos spent most of his childhood in Miami. Until now, his parents still live in this city in Florida.
“I want to be closer to my parents, and Lauran [Sazchez, pacar Bezos]. Plus, I love Miami,” Bezos said on Instagram.
