Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The King of Malaysia is officially replaced. Now the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, will become the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
This was announced Friday (27/10/2023) afternoon local time. Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah The late Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah will also be appointed Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Sultan Ibrahim has been elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year reign starting January 31 2024,” said the kingdom after the “Rulers’ Conference” at the State Palace, quoted from The Star Malaysia.
“Sultan Nazrin will serve as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the same period,” the report added.
Sultan Ibrahim himself is one of the sultans who is in the spotlight in Malaysia. He is known for leading the Sultanate of Johor which is known for its wealth.
It is not yet clear how much wealth Sultan Ibrahim Ismail has. However, several reports describe the wealth of his eldest son, Prince Tunku Ismail bin Sultan Ibrahim.
In the Forbes report, the Prince, who is not yet 40 years old, is said to have wealth of up to 750 million euros or the equivalent of Rp. 12.8 trillion. The Prince of Johor will also inherit a luxurious replica of ‘The Flintstones’ mansion, with ocean views, a nine-story lighthouse and 17 rooms, including two royal suites.
Meanwhile, the Sultan family also owns a Boeing 737 worth more than 90 million euros (Rp. 1.4 trillion) and painted in gold, with a capacity of 30 seats, various kitchens, lounges and showers. With this wealth, Prince Tunku Ismail bin Sultan Ibrahim was reported to have paid all residents who were shopping at one of the AEON supermarkets in Johor Bahru in 2018.
At that time, the prince announced that each visitor’s purchases would be paid up to a maximum of 3 thousand ringgit (around Rp. 10.6 million). As a result, the visitors were excited and cheered happily.
The prince was reportedly only at the mall for less than five minutes. However, the total purchases that visitors have to pay reach more than 1 million ringgit (around Rp. 3.5 billion). The Johor prince arrived at the mall with his beloved wife, Che Puan Khaleeda Bustamam.

Sultan Ibrahim is also known for various business ventures, with shares in several large companies including a private company that has a joint venture with Chinese property developer Country Garden’s Forest City project.
The apartment complex created by property giant Country Garden aims to accommodate 700,000 people on 7,000 hectares of land on four reclaimed islands in the Johor region and will be completed in 2035.
Currently, construction is still ongoing. So far, the city is home to fewer than 10,000 people or about 1% of its target.
