International Figure of Suella Braverman, Former British Home Minister Anti-Palestine News – 1 hour ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – British Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak fired the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Suella Braverman following public pressure regarding Braverman’s attitude in accusing the police of being too lenient towards pro-Palestinian protesters.

Sunak himself has come under increasing pressure to sack Braverman, an outspoken far-right figure, after many accused him of escalating weeks of tensions over controversial pro-Palestinian demonstrations and counter-protests in Britain.

So, how is Suella Braverman doing?

Braverman was appointed British Secretary of State at the Home Department by former Prime Minister Liz Truss in September 2022. He was ordered to resign a few weeks after taking office because he was deemed to have broken the rules by sending official documents from his personal email account.

He was reappointed as head of the Home Office by Sunak after he became prime minister.

A daughter of immigrants from Kenya and Mauritius, she grew up in Wembley. Braverman, a Conservative, was appointed attorney general by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2020 and was also the Brexit minister, and he stepped down in November 2018.

He championed stricter immigration rules, such as a plan to “stop the boats” – blocking the entry of refugees crossing the English Channel.

Braverman himself has sparked controversy during his tenure. He has taken a particularly hardline stance on immigrants and has often been involved in culture war issues that have been seen as dividing voters.

The right-wing figure attacked his critics by calling him a liberal “tofu-eating wokerati” shortly after he was inaugurated. He even said that sending asylum seekers to Rwanda was his “dream” and “obsession”.

But his position became increasingly untenable after last week he wrote a newspaper article accusing police of bias against left-wing groups. The article is said to have been published without Sunak’s approval.

This was blamed for fueling tensions ahead of weekend protests over Israel’s war on Gaza, which were accompanied by violence by right-wing counter-demonstrators. As a result of his article, there were calls for him to be fired from his post.
