Infant Diabetes Cases Skyrocket, Parents Pay Attention to These Symptoms! Lifestyle – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In 2023, the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) revealed surprising data that cases of diabetes in children have increased around 70-fold since 2010. This also raises concerns among parents.

Head of the IDAI Endocrinology Coordination Work Unit, Muhammad Faizi, said that cases of diabetes in children could even be higher than what is currently recorded. This recorded data comes from 15 cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Palembang and Medan. Of this number, the most reports came from Jakarta and Surabaya.

“This number has increased 70 times from data in 2010,” said Faizi at the IDAI online press conference last August.

Need to know, diabetes is often influenced by genetic factors. This means that the disease can also be passed from parent to child.

Apart from genetics, diabetes can also occur due to poor lifestyle factors.

The age of the child affected by diabetes

IDAI notes that pediatric diabetes patients are generally aged 10-14 years. The amount is around 46 percent of the total reported figures. Meanwhile, children aged 5-9 percent were found to contribute to 31.5 percent of all cases.

“There are also children under five. Those aged 0-4 years are affected by diabetes. From our records, there are around 19 percent,” said Faizi.

As a dangerous health problem that is often found in society, diabetes must be treated as early as possible to avoid various worse effects later on.
