A former inmate has been punished for killing a prison officer in revenge for reporting the phone he hid in his cell.

Elias Morgan, 35, said to have promised Lenny Scott, 33, he would ‘get’ finally followed the incident when he served his sentence at HMP Altcourse at Liverpool in 2020.

On Friday, the jury at Preston Crown Court found Morgan, from Prescot, Merseyside, guilty of his murder.

Wendy Logan, Deputy Head of CPS North West’s Complexwork Unit, said: ‘Lenny Scott is a loyal father who boldly strengthens his duties when he works as a prison officer by reporting an illegal telephone that he found in Elias Morgan’s cell in 2020.

A man is currently found guilty of the murder of Lenny Scott. Lenny, a former prison officer, was shot dead in cold blood outside a gym in the Skelmersdale in February 2024. He was killed by Elias Morgan, a prisoner from where Lenny took an illegal cellphone phone, a telephone that revealed Morgan, and two others, involved in a relationship with another prison officer named Sarah Williams.

“He did it in dealing with bribery and threats and intimidation by Morgan – and his commitment to public services will not be forgotten.

‘Morgan-encouraged by revenge and believed that he was above the law-carrying out cold-blooded murder.

“We are determined to provide justice and see Morgan being brought to order his evil crime – and our case is clearly determined how he planned and committed his heart.

“Our thoughts remain with Lenny’s family – especially the three small children – and all those who take care of him when they deal with their loss.”

A second man, Anthony Cleary, 29, from Liverpool, was declared innocent for murder and murder, a CPS spokesman said.

Morgan will be punished on Tuesday.
