Chaotic! Price of red cayenne pepper in DKI flies to IDR 120,000 News – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It has been observed that chili prices continue to increase. At Pasar Jaya Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, the price of red cayenne pepper has crept up to IDR 120,000 per kilogram (kg) today, Thursday (23/11/2023).

A trader at Pasar Jaya Gondangdia, Iis (52 years old) said that today the price of red cayenne pepper has reached IDR 120,000 per kg, even though previously it was still moving at the level of IDR 30,000-40,000 per kg.

“I bought it for IDR 100,000 (per kg). Sometimes I sell it for IDR 110,000, sometimes IDR 120,000 (per kg). Today I sold IDR 120,000 (per kg),” said Iis when met by CNBC Indonesia at the location.

Iis said the increase in the price of red cayenne pepper had been going on for a long time. However, the price increase to Rp. 120,000 per kg, he said, occurred two weeks ago.

“It’s been going up for a long time, I don’t know why it doesn’t go down. But if it goes up to Rp. 120,000, it’s been around 2 weeks,” he said.

Meanwhile, today’s price for curly red chilies at Iis’ kiosk is priced at IDR 100,000 per kg, an increase from the normal price of IDR 30,000-IDR 40,000 per kg.

“Red curly chilies are IDR 100,000 (per kg). The price has also gone up, but it’s still better than red cayenne peppers,” said Iis.

Since the price of chilies has increased, he said, buyers have started to reduce their purchases. If you usually buy 1kg of chilies, since the increase you have only bought ¼ kg.

“Sometimes those who usually buy 1 kg only end up buying ¼ kg, those who usually buy 1/2 kg buy 1 ounce. It’s reduced because they don’t have the budget, I mean that’s enough it fell,” he explained.

“Nothing else has increased significantly, this is just chili peppers, that’s right, it’s getting sore, it’s a mess,” added Iis.

Another trader, Yani (51 years), also conveyed the same thing. He said that the increase in the price of chilies was slow, but continued to creep up, from previously only being priced at IDR 30,000 per kg, now the price of chilies is priced at IDR 120,000 per kg.

“This chili has been going up for a while, but it’s going up slowly, at most every 3 months it starts to go up steadily. The normal price was IDR 30,000 (per kg) before, but the first month it went up to IDR 80,000 (per kg) “Then it continued to increase again to Rp. 100,000 (per kg). Well, in the past 2 weeks, it has increased to Rp. 120,000,” said Yani.

Meanwhile, the price for curly red chilies at the kiosk is Rp. 85,000-Rp. 90,000 per kg.

“This has gone up too, but not as drastically as cayenne pepper, this is the most expensive (cayenne pepper). Whether it’s because of the rainy season or something, so many harvests fail or what, I don’t know,” he said.

Furthermore, both Iis and Yani revealed that the price of shallots and garlic is in a stable position, where the price is currently priced at IDR 40,000 per kg for shallots, and IDR 45,000 per kg for garlic.

“It’s still cheap, the price is stable at Rp. 40,000 to Rp. 45,000 (per kg) at the most. Just chili, try it tell me to the government so prices can go down. “How come cayenne pepper can be so expensive,” said Yani.
