Apple Reluctant to Be Called a ‘Gatekeeper’, Joins the Fight against Europe Tech – 56 minutes ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple filed a legal challenge, challenging the new decision taken by the European Commission under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This lawsuit became known from a post shared by the Court of Justice of the European Union in X.

The strict new law targets 22 “gatekeeping” services, run by six technology companies. Quote Reutersthe six companies are Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Meta, and TikTok owned by ByteDance.

The law aims to make it easier for people to switch between competing services, and requires them to operate their own messaging apps with competitors. DMA Also requires users to decide which apps to install first on their devices.

Although details of Apple’s lawsuit have not been made public, Bloomberg reported last week that the company would challenge the App Store’s inclusion on its list of ‘gatekeepers’.

Other tech giants, Meta and TikTok, have appealed the Commission’s decision to include their services.

In its appeal, Meta stated that it disagreed with the Commission’s decision to designate Messenger and Marketplace services under the DMA. It does not oppose the inclusion of Facebook, Whatsapp, or Instagram.

Meanwhile TikTok said his appointment risked strengthening the power of dominant technology companies.

“Far from being a gatekeeper, our platform, which has been operating in Europe for more than five years, is arguably the most capable challenger to more entrenched platform businesses,” he said.
