Apple Finally Gives Up, iPhones Are More Like Android Phones Tech – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple plans to adopt the text messaging standards already used by Android phones on the iPhone.

Reuters citing reports Bloomberg, Apple stated that next year it will integrate the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard, a replacement technology for SMS and MMS, in the iPhone.

RCS technology is said to enable cellphone users to send and receive high quality photos and videos, chat via WiFi or cellular network, and get information when the message sent has been read by the recipient.

According to sources, Apple will implement RCS technology with iMessage to offer smoother inter-operating system operations.

So far, Google has integrated RCS technology in Android cellphones and is pushing for a similar system to be adopted by iOS, Apple’s iPhone operating system. However, Apple in the last year has often signaled its refusal to use RCS.

Google’s Vice President of Platform and Ecosystem, Hiroshi Lockheimer, some time ago even expressed his pity for iPhone users.

He explained that iMessage used by the iPhone is ancient technology similar to SMS and is not secure.

“Now I feel bad for iPhone users who will experience a feature drop, it would be nice if they could bring it [RCS],” Lockheimer told 9to5Google, quoted from Android AuthorityTuesday (28/3/2023).

Lockheimer added that the Android security system is much better than the iPhone. Android users actually face greater risks when they have to send messages to iPhone users.

“And more security for them too. Android users are fine, they message each other with total security and everything else, and now it’s a little strange that when interacting with an iPhone they have to deal with a degraded security experience,” he said.
