Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia is a momentum for the best young talents to show off on the world stage. A total of 21 young U-17 players who have gone through a long series of selections for the #BersamaGarudaYoungMendunia program were selected to achieve one goal of making the red and white proud.
PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir revealed that the opportunity to hold the U-17 World Cup does not only occur during the tournament, but is for the long-term success of the players.
“Don’t let the U-17 World Cup be just an event, this means it must leave a legacy for many young Indonesian players. As we always encourage, we always appreciate football legends, especially those with Indonesian blood. So this is a “The pride, their presence is to help promote the U-17 World Cup. But, the most important thing is to provide inspiration to young people,” said Erick in a press release, Saturday (11/11/2023).
The #BersamaGarudaMudaMendunia program itself is a PSSI initiative to search for and select the best talents from all corners of the country which has been running since July 2023. This program, which aims to provide opportunities to develop the country’s young talents, is supported by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI by taking the role as main sponsor.
Regarding BRI’s support for the national football development program, BRI President Director Sunarso revealed that BRI provided support in the context of forming a golden generation of Indonesian football in the future. Sunarso hopes that this program can produce young talents who can continuously improve national football achievements.
“We must support young people from all sides. We must have a vision, a winning team must be built and prepared long ago,” said Sunarso.
Not only does this program promote player selection ahead of the U-17 World Cup, this program also organizes several other youth development support activities, including a coaching clinic for U-15 players from Football Schools (SSB) in Indonesia. Unmitigated, the coaching clinic was led directly by the Indonesian international soccer star, Radja Nainggolan.
As is known, Radja is a player who has played with many clubs in Serie A, such as AS Roma, Inter Milan, Cagliari, SPAL (Serie C Italian League), and Antwerp (Belgium). The name Radja is considered popular among domestic football fans because he has Indonesian bloodline originating from his mother, Marius Nainggolan, an Indonesian citizen of the Batak tribe.
Radja also looked serious and occasionally joked while teaching him the basics of football during training. The title of star on his shoulders does not seem to give the impression of being distant to the young Indonesian players at the BRILian Stadium, Jakarta, Wednesday (8/11).
Radja was not alone, he was also accompanied by Indonesian women’s soccer star Sabreena Dressler during the coaching clinic. The player born in Perth, Australia, who has played for top Indonesian League teams, such as Persija Jakarta, Subiaco and Balcatta Womens, was also seen mingling with the players.
As is known, Radja and Sabreena were officially appointed as Promotional Ambassadors for the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. Their arrival in Indonesia is to support the Indonesian U-17 team which will compete in the U-17 World Cup.
