Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- A total of 16 Governors have set provincial minimum wages (UMP) for 2024 which follow Government Regulation (PP) No. 51/2023 concerning Wages as a replacement for PP No. 36/2021.

To date, North Maluku is recorded as the region with the largest increase in the UMP, namely 7.5% to IDR 3,200,000, while Aceh is the region with the lowest increase of 1.36% to IDR 3,460,672.

Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower, Dita Indah Sari, said that the principle of increasing wages in 2024 is an effort to accommodate the interests of workers affected by rising prices as well as the interests of the business world considering that a number of sectors, especially labor intensive, are currently under pressure.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Standing Committee on the Job Market & Expansion of Job Opportunities at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ning Wahyu, assessed that PP 51/2023 was very wise in accommodating the interests of employers and workers. This regulation is also expected to reduce wage disparities between regions
