Wikipedia Boss: Elon Musk’s Twitter Contents Madman & Tech Heckler – 16 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales takes a swipe at Twitter under Elon Musk. The social media, which is now called X, is said to have lost users and is now controlled by “crazy people and despicable people.”

Wales stated that Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter created a huge problem in the social media landscape. Musk annexed Twitter in a deal worth US$ 44 billion.

“I think a lot of people are leaving Twitter, a lot of thinkers and serious people are leaving Twitter,” he said CNBC International at Web Summit, quoted Wednesday (15/11/2023).

According to Wales, Twitter, which is now called X, has played a role as a public space for people all over the world. “It’s now controlled by trolls [pengguna internet yang kerap memancing konflik] and a madman, is not good for all.”

CNBC International stated that data from Similarweb shows a decrease in engagement on Twitter X compared to last year.

Musk previously made fun of Wales on Twitter

Last year, Musk also accused Wikipedia of being biased. The trigger was an attempt by some Wikipedia editors to delete information about Twitter Files on Wikipedia. Musk claims the contents of the Twitter Files contain evidence that Twitter management previously implemented content moderation policies that were “hostile” to conservative groups.

In the end, Wikipedia administrators decided to maintain information about Twitter Files.

Trust cafe is a Twitter competitor

All content on Wikipedia is created, updated, and maintained by a community of volunteers from around the world.

“He tried to argue with me, I decided to ignore him [Musk]. So I don’t have a response to that,” Wales said in response to a question about Musk’s US$ 1 billion donation offer.

According to Wales, Wikipedia does not implement censorship but has a mutually agreed editorial policy. “So, as everyone knows, Elon has always been Elon.”

Wales earlier this year announced its Twitter-like platform called Trust Cafe. According to him, Trust Cafe is a “pilot project” with the aim of creating a “community of people who can be trusted.”

The platform, he continued, will contain “content based on trust rather than preference and virality.” Trust Cafe will also not accept advertising.

On Trustu Cafe, users can post content similar to X. Other users can then comment on the content. “I don’t know if this is the answer, but I’m trying,” Wales said.
