Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It turns out that various groups of people are getting caught up in online gambling. Even the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, said he found that many of his employees were gambling.
“The problem is that when I first came in, I was photographed by my friends, our employees were gambling, someone gave it to me,” said Budi at the Press Conference on the Development of Handling Online Gambling, at the Kominfo office, Jakarta, Friday. (20/10/2023).
He said a number of civil servants in various circles had also become victims of online gambling, from regional government, regional government officials, to ASN.
At that time, Budi also reminded him not to gamble. Because the number of victims involved is significant.
Online gambling has also entered the world of streamers. Some of them are reported to be promoting online gambling.
Asked about the streamer’s involvement, Budi only said that legal action was in the hands of the relevant authorities. So this matter will be handed over to law enforcers.
“When it comes to legal enforcement, that’s a matter for law enforcement officials, not Kominfo’s business. Kominfo’s business is about platforms, about technology, about telecommunications facilities and infrastructure. When it comes to law enforcement, we’ll leave it to law enforcers, OK,” he explained.
Eradicating online gambling also involves collaboration with various related institutions and ministries. For example, with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) regarding where online gambling funds flow.
Budi explained that he had asked the OJK to block 2,760 accounts related to online gambling. This amount is for the period 17 July to 16 October 2023.
“Some time ago, we asked the OJK to block 2,760 accounts from July 17 2023 to October 16 2023,” he said.
BI was asked to block e-wallet issues. Budi did not specify the number of e-wallet accounts blocked, but only said the number was around tens.
“It’s a little more, it seems like it’s not that significant anymore. No, it’s not enough [ratusan] tens at most,” he concluded.
