Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) to maintain neutrality in the 2024 General Election. The KPK said that ASN being neutral in the 2024 Election is the beginning of a clean government after 2024.
“This democratic party is the beginning of the foundation of the national government system in the future. ASN is a pillar of government administration. As a strong pillar, ASN must have integrity; be professional; be neutral; and be free from Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism (KKN),” said the Deputy Chair of the Corruption Eradication Committee, Nurul. Ghufron, at a webinar organized by the State Civil Apparatus Commission (KASN), Wednesday (18/10/2023).
He said that ASN is prone to bureaucratic politicization and corruption through various methods. According to him, this vulnerability arose by taking advantage of his status within the central and regional governments. Ghufron reminded the importance of personal integrity in every ASN in facing the 2024 elections.
“If the election lacks integrity, it could produce ASNs who don’t have integrity. If ASNs don’t have integrity, there could be a system of employee transfers, procurement of goods/services, which are traded,” he said.
Ghufron said ASN has rights and obligations in the 2024 election activities. He said ASN has the right to vote in the election, but cannot invite other people to vote for one of the candidates.
“You need to remember, ASN must be loyal to the government structure, not to individuals who serve in that structure. Let the candidate campaign themselves, but once again ASN should not be part of a candidate’s campaign,” said Nurul Ghufron.
He said that the Corruption Eradication Commission itself would play a role in preventing corruption in the 2024 elections. He hoped that the 2024 elections would be free from corrupt behavior. “The KPK views that elections can be a gateway to corruption. Therefore, the KPK hopes that the elections will run without corruption,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of KASN, Agus Pramusinto touched on the basic factors that triggered corruption among ASN during the elections. These factors include the politicization of ASN; low ASN salaries; lack of accountability; weak law enforcement mechanisms; and excessive procedures.
“2023 is a year prone to corruption because the entry gate for political contestation is 2024. Political contestants need financial ammunition due to high political costs,” said Agus Pramusinto.
