Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet next month on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco. This was revealed from US government sources.
The two leaders of these major countries have not spoken since they last met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, in November.
Since then, tensions have risen between Washington and Beijing regarding the downing of a Chinese spy balloon over US territory and China’s stance on the war in Ukraine.
Quoted from CNBC International, one source said there was an “agreement in principle” between Biden and Xi to meet in San Francisco. Final details, including the exact day, venue and other logistics, have not been announced.
The two countries discussed several details when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Blinken and White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan yesterday, Friday (28/10/2023). Biden will reportedly meet China’s top diplomat for about an hour.
