Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – We as internet users leave behind various personal data when we do activities on it. However, we can still delete these digital traces on Google.
You do this by requesting a deletion via a feature called Remove this Result or Delete Results on Google. We can delete some personal information in the technology giant’s search engine.
However, keep in mind that this method does not immediately delete all personal data from the internet or websites. Your personal data is still there, but it will not appear when other people search and have difficulty finding information about you.
Follow these steps to use Remove this Result, quoted from CNBC International, Monday (30/10/2023):
- Search your name on Google.
- Click on the three vertical dots next to the website whose information you want to delete.
- Press “Clear results” at the top right.
- There are five options, but for phone number, email and home address, select “This shows my personal contact info.”.
- Press the arrow on the right and then press “Continue” three times after you’ve reviewed Google’s terms and signed in to the Google account you want to link.
- Type your name and contact information that matches what you want to delete. For example, if you want to delete a private phone number, make sure it is entered. – Click “Continue.” then “Send.”
- You can press “I’m done” to return to the Google Search page.
After completing these steps, you can review the request again. Namely by pressing the ‘Open deletion request’ bar.
For the record, the method you use will take several days to process. Apart from that, there are two ways to find out about Google’s decision to carry out our request.
One of them is waiting for a notification email from Google. Another way is to check Google activity to see the status of the request.
