Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In a matter of days, a number of cellphones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. This Meta subsidiary policy will have an impact on cellphones that use older operating systems (OS).

This policy will start blocking as of October 24, 2024. For example, on an Android cellphone you will no longer be able to use WhatsApp which uses the Android version 4.4.4, unless it is Android 5 or later.

If you are an Android cellphone user and don’t know what type of OS you are using, you can check it via the Settings option. Next, look for the About menu and Android Version.

The blocking will also affect those who use older iPhones. Meanwhile, users of the iOS 12 operating system or later can still use WhatsApp.

The good news is that not many people will be affected by this policy. Because there are still few users of the old OS Android 4.4.4, even the new Android is only used by 1.69% of all Android users as of May 2023 data.

For the record, if you are still using a cellphone that still uses an old OS and is affected by this policy, you should replace your cellphone with a newer version.
