Compact Chinese HP Leaves Android, Google Can Beat Tech – 57 minutes ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Smartphone manufacturers from China, Xiaomi and Huawei, are rapidly developing their operating systems. Both seek to integrate various product portfolios, from cellphones to smart home appliances, under one operating system.

Xiaomi recently launched HyperOS which replaces MIUI. The operating system still depends on Google’s Android.

However, HyperOS can be said to be more independent. This operating system is a form of ‘fusion’ of Android and Xiaomi’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform called Vela.

With HyperOS, users can enjoy a smoother and more unified experience when using smartphones, smartwatches and smart TVs. This initiative aims to simplify users’ lives when trying out various Xiaomi products.

So far HyperOS has not ‘rebelled’ to Android, but still maintains a symbiotic relationship, quoted from Gizmochina, Monday (30/10/2023). However, it is possible that in the future Xiaomi will be more ambitious to become independent, following Huawei’s steps.

Moreover, the heated geopolitical relations between China and the US have had a big impact on the technology industry. The Joe Biden administration recently created a complete blocking rule for US chip access to China.

On the other hand, Huawei’s HarmonyOS is truly independent and independent of the Google ecosystem, after receiving strict sanctions from the United States (US).

Despite experiencing a steep road to promote HarmonyOS without Android support, Huawei is starting to show revival after releasing the Mate 60 Pro which is selling well on the market. Currently, more than 700 million devices are running HarmonyOS.

It’s not easy to defeat Android’s dominance. Currently, Android still dominates the mobile operating system market share at 70%. In fact, Apple’s iOS still takes up a very small portion.

Xiaomi is slowly showing off with HyperOS, while still optimizing Android support. Meanwhile, Huawei has a clear focus on expanding HarmonyOS adoption.

Let’s wait for the next surprise from China’s technology giants, which are trying to escape dependence on US industry.
